Advocacy.
For the Flow’s advocacy focuses on raising awareness and taking action to address the challenges faced by individuals who lack access to menstrual products, education, and proper healthcare during menstruation. This movement aims to destigmatize periods, promote gender equality, and ensure that everyone has the resources they need to manage their periods with dignity and convenience. By advocating for policies that provide free or affordable menstrual products, promote education about periods, and support women’s healthcare services, For the Flow strives to create a more equitable and inclusive society for menstruators worldwide.
A recent Ohio law requires schools to provide free period products for grades 6 through 12, The operating budget to support this legislation is $5 million, consisting of $2 million for installing dispensers and $3 million for product reimbursement. Beyond these initial funds, according to the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce, schools may develop a plan that addresses sustainability through partnerships with local nonprofit organizations that support providing free-period products. This is one area where For the Flow fits in and addresses a very real, current, and tangible need in our local community. For the Flow is collecting data and information about what our local schools are doing to comply with this new law, We have connected with potential sustainable suppliers, and have several student volunteers willing to help.
